Jenni Saarelainen

I started with restaurant work when I was 16 years old. My first job was washing dishes in a Tampere restaurant. I joined Avecra in February 2011 as a train server. In addition to my work, I completed the Avecra Quick 2 specialist vocational qualification for hotel, restaurant and catering service managers. In the summer of 2012, I worked shifts in the Ooster restaurant in addition to my job as a train server, filling in for my then team leader during the summer holidays. I also occasionally worked shifts for our sales secretary, handling orders for trains and also making catering arrangements for charter trips. In 2013, I transferred to the Helsinki Railway Station Robert’s Coffee as a shift supervisor, in 2014 I was manager of the Pasila Robert’s Coffee and on 1 February 2016, I started as manager of the Ooster restaurant in the Helsinki railway Station.

I've enjoyed my time with Avecra a great deal. It is really nice that a company offers its employees opportunities to learn new skills and advance in their careers - all they have to do is express a desire for it.

I've been with Avecra since 2002. When our organisation was restructured in November of 2015, I started out on a whole new career as a Service Manager at the Ilmala logistics and service centre. Before this, I served as a store manager and then group leader for Avecra's kiosk operation for roughly 13 years. I received training as an automotive mechanic, so my work and education aren't entirely in line with each other. But, this hasn't slowed me down from advancing in my career!

It pays to be curious and open to different job opportunities. And, if you do your job well, there's no telling how your career will turn out. Avecra has offered me a wide range of tasks and opportunities, so it's no surprise that I love working here.
